Hi folks! I’ve always wanted to write a DBD Trapper Guide 2022 to trapper but never quite felt like I had the experience to do so, but after hundreds of hours with this killer and countless matches I think I’ve got enough of a grasp to offer some DBD Trapper tips and strategies to would-be trappers and maybe even a little advice to fellow trapper mains. I do not consider myself the ‘best’ trapper main by any means and I feel like there’s always room for learning, so if you have something to add feel free to speak up. Hopefully the info I provide below will help some of you out.

So come and take a look at this DBD Trapper Guide 2022 August

DBD Trapper Guide 2022 August

General strategy:

Just as trapper’s killer description states, he is an area control killer and wants to establish a territory. As a trapper, we don’t want to trek across the map to find survivors in a standard chase; instead, we want to identify a section of the map and start setting up. I usually pick the side of the map with the most generators and start selectively trapping up loops and common travel points, preferably ones covered by grass or another type of foliage. Once we have a territory set up, we need to defend it. Don’t allow survivors to lead you across the map from your chosen territory – the other survivors will head in and pop the gens there, making our setup useless.

In a chase:

As stated before, we don’t tend to chase like the average killer. We want to herd survivors into our area and force them into loops or paths that we’ve trapped. If we’re at an unfavorable loop and we don’t already have it trapped, what you can do is fake setting your trap. Simply begin to set the trap and stop – most survivors will leave the loop and head elsewhere, sometimes forcing them into a less safe area or even getting us a hit. If a survivor should be dense enough to not leave the loop, we can simply trap them there.

Maps:

Trapper can be a very map dependent killer and the difficulty of your match can swing quite heavily depending on what map you end up with. If we get a map like Midwich, Dead Dawg, Grim Pantry or Wretched Shop then we should be in a good situation. If we get a map like Cowshed, The Game, Eyrie or Lerys, then we face tough odds. In the brighter indoor maps like The Game or Lerys, our strategy has to change a bit. Hiding spots for traps on those maps are in short supply if they exist at all, and that makes trapping loops much harder. In these cases, our best bet is usually to trap up doorways or windows to areas that survivors must access or to place traps in the pathway (but not in the middle!) of pallets.

While we won’t cover every perk that’s viable on trapper much less every killer perk in the game, I wanted to go over some sensible perk options for trapper below.

DBD Trapper Perk 2022 choices:

Corrupt Intervention: A longtime trapper staple, allowing you to set up your territory without having generators pop in the distance. Though he can be played without it, you will sacrifice even more of the early game than usual and your margin for error could be extremely thin.

Save The Best For Last: A very strong choice for trapper, allowing you to end chases faster and giving you a stronger chase to fall back on when your traps aren’t working as well as you would like. When your traps do work, the perk is even better, allowing you to get free stacks by hitting survivors out of your traps and allowing you to preserve your stacks by picking your obsession out of traps.

Call of Brine: Since Pop has been significantly nerfed, this is probably our best choice for active regression. Can be applied to multiple gens for 200% regression and gives a notification when survivors hit good skill checks, giving us some tracking and warning when survivors are banging out affected generators.

Deadlock: If you prefer a more passive perk than CoB, Deadlock is a good choice. Locking off the generator with the most progress is never a bad thing, and it can even allow us to set up a nest of traps near the affected generator when survivors inevitably come back to it.

No Way Out: So long as you get your hooks during the game, No Way Out can be extremely clutch. Very good survivors will push you to the end game and having the extra time before the gates open can net you another kill or two.

Jolt: Recently buffed, Jolt is a good regression perk for us and can be especially strong in a three gen situation. If you can snowball with this equipped, the value can be downright gross.

Hex-No One Escapes Death: Anyone that has played this game for any appreciable length of time knows about this one. We can argue about the fairness of this perk and its effectiveness is questionable at best against the better teams, but especially coupled with No Way Out this can be very powerful against survivors caught unawares. I don’t recommend it for newer trappers or newer killers in general, but for an end game build it certainly has its place.

Agitation: One of the trapper’s base perks, Agitation is useful for dragging a survivor deeper into your territory or getting that last bit of distance to take them into the basement. Can be combined with Iron Grasp for basement builds, but if you’re only to take one then Agitation is the clear choice.

Similar to the above, I was hesitant to go over every single add-on that trapper has for reasons of longevity and some of his add-ons simply being obviously not that useful. If you have a question about one or have a good use for one that I didn’t list, please comment!

DBD Trapper Guide 2022 - Trapper Perk, Add on

DBD Trapper Add-on 2022 choices:

Trapper Sack: Although the drawback of not being able to pick up your traps is a big one, starting with all of your traps on hand is very powerful. You can immediately start locking down strong areas and it makes the basement trapper strat much easier. Since you cannot move your traps however, you might find it better to use your traps to deny areas rather than hiding them around loops, which brings me to the next add-on…

Iridescent Stone: Traps will rearm every thirty seconds, removing the need for you to reset them. Combined with the trapper sack, you can use this to choke off areas and force survivors to deal with your traps. A very strong choice.

Honing Stone: Survivors that escape on their own will enter the dying state. In the right scenario, you can snowball like crazy with this add-on. If someone steps in a trap right in front of you this obviously does nothing, but it’s invaluable when a survivor steps on a trap and you aren’t right there to take advantage.

Bloody Coil: Anyone disarming your traps becomes injured. I shouldn’t have to say why this is powerful. It also makes matches on otherwise unfavorable maps (eg: The Game, Eyrie of Crows) much more manageable.

Trapper bag: Starts us with one extra trap and allows us to carry up to three traps. Self explanatory, and a safe choice. More traps is never a bad thing.

Fastening Tools/Trapper Gloves: Trapper gloves speed up your trap placement by 30%. Nothing fancy, but never without use. Fastening Tools bumps this up to 50% and adds a 25% slowdown to trap rescues or escapes, making for a very useful add on. Increasing your setting speed not only makes setting up your territory much faster, but helps you use your traps easier in chase, whether you’re faking the setup or actually setting one down.

Tar Bottle: Sadly, tar bottle has seen better days. The visual update that traps received when trapper got his add-on pass already gave the traps a darker, more steely appearance and the tar bottle effect is now very drastic. But isn’t this a good thing, you might say? Not really. The darkened effect can make the traps stand out rather than blending in and on bright maps such as Eyrie or Coldwind, this add-on can be a self nerf. Even on maps where you might think you want this (eg: swamp maps), the standard coloration of the traps is plenty sufficient. Though not downright useless, in most cases the tar bottle is unnecessary right now.

Makeshift wrap: Allows you to walk over your own traps without being caught, but disarms them in the process. While we shouldn’t be waltzing over our own traps willy nilly, this still has its uses. This can make basement trapper even more dangerous and you can occasionally pull off a few cute tricks with it – for instance, you set a trap around a loop and a survivor knows about it. They have to take a wider path around and lose distance, but you can move straight through for a hit you might not have gotten on them otherwise.

Secondary Coil/4-Coil Spring Kit: Does it exactly what they say on the tin, making trap disarms take longer. This can add up over a game to waste survivors time or you could even pair one of them with bloody coil to add insult to injury.
